Description

Provides instrument and electrical engineering expertise in multiple chemical productions units, leads and supervises the instrument technician team as assigned.

Assures proper design, installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of instrument and electrical equipment.

• Assures efficient and effective utilization of maintenance manpower, tools, and equipment for day to day technical and maintenance support of the Chemical plant operations.

• Supplies technical expertise to operations, providing leadership to the I&E maintenance resources, administering the maintenance processes and budget, and assisting in or executing small projects.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to climb ladders and structures as well as walk throughout the chemical complex. The employee will be part of the ongoing rotational on-call program in support of the operational units.

Qualifications

BS degree in Chemical or Electrical Engineering with industrial experience regarding chemical plant I&E design, maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting preferred. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.

• Understand maintenance work processes practices such as MPI, RCFA, and TPM.

• General knowledge of instrumentation and controls systems repair, electrical systems repair, project execution, and construction and installation techniques

• Must have general computer skills and user knowledge of maintenance management systems, preferably SAP

• Must have experience with configuration and maintenance of distributed control systems, preferably Foxboro as well as SIS systems such as Triconex or HIMA.

• Must have generic competencies of analytical thinking, initiative, team leadership/collaboration, and coaching

• Professional engineer's license a plus.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.

Description

• Maintains and improves plant reliability through identifying/correcting bad actors, conducting root cause failure analyses, meeting mechanical integrity requirements, and implementing preventive/predictive maintenance programs.

• Provides leadership and technical expertise for the contractor mechanical maintenance resources as may be assigned, including the team leader, planner, mechanics, and support crafts, and communicates with the maintenance coordinator and/or the BASF contract administrator regarding contractor personnel issues, including performance and staffing level requirements.

• Acts as a team with other TTES mechanical and I&E engineers and instrument technicians to perform routine, extraordinary, and turnaround maintenance activities.

• Collaborates with operations personnel in troubleshooting mechanical problems and implementing technology improvements, provides guidance and training as appropriate to promote proper operation and maintenance of equipment and piping systems.

• Requisitions, schedules, and usually provides field oversight of outside contractors and suppliers of mechanical maintenance services performing work at the site or in off site shops.

• Provides primary input to preparing the maintenance budget, and controls spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.

• Monitors key performance indicators, and supports and implements continuous improvements to the maintenance work processes in order to enhance plant availability and reduce the plant repair factor.

• Administers the various elements of the maintenance program, including equipment and piping inspections, spare parts availability, vibration and oil analysis frequency, PSV maintenance, and similar activities.

• Ensures proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements, and maintains current requirements as to equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences.

• Seeks compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promotes a safe working environment.

• Performs as mechanical discipline engineer for projects and manages small projects as assigned, and is responsible for seeking additional expertise as situations may warrant.

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 8 years industrial experience regarding chemical plant mechanical design, maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting.

• Requires understanding of best industry practices regarding maintenance activities and work processes.

• Requires strong understanding of rotating equipment repair and general knowledge of stationary equipment repair, project execution, and construction and installation techniques. Requires familiarity with BASF Technical standards, accounting practices, and procurement policies.

• Must have general computer skills as well as user knowledge of SAP maintenance and project functions.

• Must have generic competencies of analytical thinking, communication and interpersonal understanding, customer focus, entrepreneurial acting/initiative, team leadership/collaboration, and coaching.

• A professional engineer's license preferred.

• Experience in Utilities operations, including electrical and steam generation equipment is preferred, but not mandatory.
