Description

The Instrument and Controls System Engineer works as a member of the TES organization to support daily operations, process improvements, and capital projects at the Beaumont, TX location. Position reports directly to TES Manager.

Responsibilities Include:

? Administer and maintain all site control systems (Honeywell TDC 3000, PLC), safety instrumented systems (SIS), and associated applications and peripherals (networks, infrastructure, Aspen IP.21, etc).

? Serve as primary contact for all instrumentation and control system modifications and ensure adherence to BASF engineering standards, especially during capital project work.

? Serve as site's designated Safety Instrumented System (SIS) expert and perform all associated responsibilities.

? Configure and modify unit interlocks as necessary and have an applied understanding of their purposes.

? Administer loop sheets and keep updated as changes are made.

? Design and maintain HMI graphics meeting ASM guidelines for high-performance HMI.

? Administer and perform configuration changes.

? Design and improve control configuration.

? Participate in loop tuning.

? Participate in APC and process optimization groups to implement and maintain advanced process control applications.

? Utilize statistical process control tools to drive continuous improvement.

? Lead alarm management team and routinely analyze alarms for improvement opportunities.

? Lead wireless program and drive implementation throughout the site.

? Administer all EH&S-related instrumentation and data collection systems.

? Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues.
? Work closely with I/E Technicians, Maintenance Technicians, Operators, Coordinators, and Operations Engineers.

Qualifications

Requires a BS Degree in Engineering - Electrical, Controls Systems, or Chemical preferred.

? Requires a minimum of 5 years work experience with controls systems (Honeywell TDC 3000 preferred) and computer hardware, software, and networking.

? Must possess a strong technical knowledge of controls engineering and controls systems.

? Must possess a strong knowledge of control schematic design and control configuration.

? Must possess a strong knowledge of advanced process control (APC) techniques.

? Must possess a strong knowledge of safety instrumented systems (SIS)

? Ability to read, mark-up, and update I/E documents (schematics, loop drawings, one-line drawings, P&ID's , etc.) per BASF standards.

? Knowledge of HMI graphic design utilizing High Performance Graphics as presented by the ASM Consortium

? Knowledge of alarm management concepts, loop tuning, and Intools.

? Knowledge of CADD drawing programs is a plus.

? Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose control system and instrumentation failures and utilize root cause analysis for corrective actions.

? Knowledge and experience of Process Information Management Systems (preferably Aspen IP.21)

? Desire to learn new technologies, apply new tools, and stay on the forefront of the controls field.

? Ability to work in a team atmosphere.

Description

Under the direction of the Production Manager the Operations Engineer is responsible for providing technical process assistance for operating units. Involved in all phases of operations including: raw material consumption, product yield accounting and process performance. Position is located at the Beaumont, TX location and is a part of the Crop Protection business.

* Provide technical support and direction to the Production Supervisors and Shifts in the resolution of plant problems.
* Ensure plant changes or modifications are captured and documented as a part of the PSM " Management of Change" .
* Responsible for supporting PHA/PSSR reviews and revalidation to meet PSM requirements.
* Prepares economic evaluations on changes in operations.
* Performs process design work, calculates heat and material balances, line sizes, heat exchangers, tower designs, etc.
* Plan and conduct test work and evaluate results to improve operations and product quality.
* Prepare progress reports on operating units, technical problems and special projects.
* Assists in the preparation of the annual expense and capital budgets for the assigned areas.

Qualifications

* BS Degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical Engineering.

BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.

* Minimum of five (5) years operations experience in a chemical manufacturing site. Prefer industrial experience. (preferably a combination of production experience, process support and project implementation).
* Demonstrates experience and skills for problem solving, change-management, root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
* DCS background using Honeywell TDC-3000 desired.
* Sound technical knowledge, analytical abilities, and computer skills.
* Strong project management skills.
* Demonstrates teamwork and leadership skills.
* Strong leadership skills and high level of initiative are required to lead the various teams to success.

Description

Structural Engineering

* Design of new steel and concrete structures including process structures, piperacks, and buildings.
* Design of foundations for structures, buildings, piperacks, reactors, towers, compressors, exchangers, pumps, tanks, and other equipment.
* Analysis of existing structures and foundations for repair, renovation, or additions.

Civil Engineering

* Design of site development, roads, drainage, railroads, and barge and ship docks, truck docks and loading stations.
* Analysis of existing infrastructure for repairs, renovation or additions.

Capital Project Support

* Provide engineering technical support during all phases of project execution.
* Prepare of scope of work documents, key quantities for cost estimates, bid packages, and detailed engineering drawings.
* Prepare information and expertise for development of project cost and schedule.
* Lead civil and structural design efforts on small and large capital projects. Provide technical direction for 1-10 engineers/designers (in-house and/or third party engineering firm) during the engineering phase of the projects

Support Services

* Review of work of outside engineering firms for quality, code compliance, and BASF Technical Standards compliance.
* Perform bid evaluations, construction assistance, maintenance assistance, and consulting on civil structural issues.
* Provide expertise to interpret codes and maintain best practices (ASCE, IBC, utilize STAAD).
* Evaluate suppliers including engineering firms, contractors, and fabricators
* Provide technical assistance in solving day to day problems at Freeport and BASF linked sites.
* Review, validate/challenge, and provide constructive feedback on new and revised BASF Technical Standards and Site Practices relating to civil engineering.
* Review BASF Safety and Loss Prevention standards, Ecology Standards, and governmental codes and regulations for changes affecting projects, detail design, and retrofits.
* Act as civil liaison for Corporate Engineering to Ludwigshafen and other BASF sites. This includes participation on Corporate Ad-hoc committees.
* Supports Site Administrative efforts, including the preparation and retention of documentation.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with experience to provide intimate knowledge of the theory and practice of Civil and Structural Engineering as used in a chemical plant and/or industrial operation. Must understand conceptual design engineering, fabrication, construction, cost engineering, and project management.

Good motivational, planning/scheduling, and communication skills are required. Must be able to maintain a positive attitude under all work conditions and perform in a team atmosphere.

Additional requirements

1. 7+ years in civil/structural design engineering and related fields.
2. Working knowledge with STAADPro structural design software.
3. Knowledgeable in Civil and Structural Codes (, AISC, ACI, IBC, ASCE, and other applicable codes)
4. Self-starter, good communication skills, organization, leadership skills.
5. Strong computer skills.

Description

Supports the Freeport Polycaprolactam & Intermediates Complex (P&IC) by developing and tracking the maintenance budgets and spending, tracking and analyzing equipment performance, participating in the root cause analysis of failures, developing and implementing corrective actions, identifying and pursuing reliability improvement opportunities, supporting planning / development / execution of plant outages, developing and executing maintenance projects, overseeing and supporting improvement of plant maintenance work processes, assuring PSM/MIP compliance, and optimizing PM/PdM programs. Responsibilities may include developing the mechanical engineering design and specifications for new installations or debottlenecking of existing plants. Works with site, Corporate and business group teams to ensure the flow of information regarding mechanical engineering technology across the Freeport site, as well as to and from the Freeport site.

Qualifications

Required:

B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology. A minimum of 5 years of directly applicable maintenance role experience (chemical plant, refinery, or similar plant environment).

Participation in a high performance team requires entrepreneurial characteristics as well as excellent communication and human relations skills.

Desired:
