Description

Provides instrument and electrical engineering expertise in multiple chemical productions units, leads and supervises the instrument technician team as assigned.

The Quality Control Laboratory Manager plans, coordinates, and directs the Sparks QA/QC programs designed to ensure continuous formulation and packaging of products consistent with FIFRA, BASF, and customer standards.

The QC Laboratory Manager is responsible for:

* Oversight of QC functions (including raw material, in-process, and finished product testing) by developing and reviewing data daily, ensuring conformity of finished product to customer standards and applicable regulations
* Partnering with the Manufacturing team to establish a thorough knowledge of the plant production systems, how they function, and how this functioning affects the quality of the product.
* Maintaining all required documentation for QC personnel (including batch sheets, formula cards, specifications, and analytical methods) by developing and maintaining the lab documents database and customer contacts, ensuring conformity of finished product to customer standards and applicable regulations.
* Maintaining and increasing the competency of QC lab personnel by planning, promoting, and organizing training activities, ensuring product quality and reliability.
* Investigating customer complaints regarding product quality and/or nonconformance by making contacts or performing analyses, ensuring that complaints are resolved in a timely manner.

Qualifications

Required:

* BS degree in chemistry, biology, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering or related field.
* Experience managing an organic laboratory.
* Experience with common analytical equipment (HPLC, GC) and wet chemistry techniques.
* Previous laboratory supervisory/management experience.
* Ability to work independently of supervision and also work in a matrix organization.
* Strong leadership qualities to the extent that this function is the "go to" person on all quality issues in the plant.
* Must be both detail oriented and "big picture" oriented.
* Resourcefulness, assertiveness and the ability to appropriately deploy resources.
* Agricultural chemical industry experience desired.
