Research Chemist Job

Research Chemist
This position is being created to further strengthen the recently established High Temperature Polymerization Research Group at Wyandotte. This research group is an integral part of the global Polymer Research platform of BASF with its mission to explore new opportunities related to the chemistry and engineering of functional resins obtained in a unique process.
Major responsibilities include:
Identify, recommend and perform challenging and cutting edge research project assignments.
Interface with other research units (mostly in Germany) and development groups in order to create new ideas, processes, or products.
Design and direct/perform experiments for new product development and make recommendations to management based on the results achieved.
Lead projects to commercialization through PhaseGate process.
Handle complex projects simultaneously.
Establish priorities, time milestones and completion dates for projects.
Provide technical and administrative management of 1-2 technicians or bench chemists.
Prepare technical reports and presentations as required.
Participate in product development/cross functional teams such as growth teams and committees.
Acquire relevant technology through literature, seminars, conferences, academia and industry.
Expected to continually develop new skill sets and learn new procedures/techniques through conferences, training and/or educational forums.
Maintain detailed laboratory notebook in accordance with scientific and intellectual property principles.
Ph.D. in Polymer or Organic Chemistry with a focus on Materials Science with 1-3 years related experience. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
Expected to possess a thorough knowledge of research principles and techniques, with specialization preferred polymer synthesis and characterization, colloid and surface science.
Project management skills would be beneficial.
Advanced soft skills such as interpersonal, communication and presentation skill sets are an asset.
Should possess good team skills and be capable of taking on key/lead roles.
