Staff Engineer
The successful applicant will be responsible for day-to-day planning and execution of test programs both platform & applications to develop emissions technologies for gasoline or diesel engines. Design and implement new tests and associated data handling protocols; operate and diagnose problems on advanced prototype engines provided by OEMs and test cell instrumentation; assure data quality and integrity through oversight of test cell hardware and instrumentation; analyze data; generate system solution ideas; become familiar with engine calibrations; prepare and present results to internal customers; supervise one test cell operator. The candidate will work under general supervision, and is expected to design, implement and interpret moderately complex projects independently.
MS degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or technical discipline with 3-5 years experience; or a BS degree in mechanical or chemical engineering or technical discipline with 5-7 years experience. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. Expected to possess good working knowledge of research theories, principles, and techniques. Data analysis skill is crucial. Internal combustion engine knowledge is necessary, and calibration and emission experience a plus. Computer programming, emission and engine test cell skills are valuable. The candidate must have experience conducting conventional, complex research analysis assignments using standard and non-standard engineering techniques to provide solutions to product development and/or customer problems. Must have the ability to effectively communicate results by means of written reports and oral presentations.
