Scientist II - Construction/Industrial Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings Job

Scientist II - Construction/Industrial Adhesives, Sealants and Coatings
BASF Construction Chemicals, the leading manufacturer of sealants, adhesives, coatings and concrete repair products for the construction industry, seeks a Scientist II to work on product development in our Shakopee, Minnesota Technical Center. Key activities include developing and designing new formulations and products, modification and improvement to existing formulations, scaling up new products to production and optimization of manufacturing processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Initiate and execute the development of new and improved products.
Implement product scale-up from laboratory to production.
Establish product performance and quality control specifications.
Acquire working knowledge of business system software (e.g. SAP ).
Supervise production and testing of pilot batches at manufacturing facilities.
Acquire knowledge of industry-related practices, design and/or specifications through participation in:
Technical seminars and/or societies
Field sales support
Product field applications
Lead routine development projects within a primary technology with no supervision.
Develop and communicate technical information, within and outside of R&D, through presentations and scientific reports.
Acquire knowledge of multiple product technologies.
Mentor Associate Scientists and Technicians.
Experience:
Demonstrated ability to work safely in a laboratory and field application environment.
Able to establish quality control and technical specifications.
Able to operate basic business software.
Able to generate and deliver reports and presentations within and outside department.
Able to network.
Able to conduct technology demonstrations within and outside department.
Able to coordinate projects within the department.
Knowledge of chemistry, material science, and engineering as it relates to a primary technology.
Able to understands personal strengths/limitations and can express own opinions and ideas openly
Able to alter normal procedures to fit specific situations to get a job done
Able to work constructively with others.
Able to deliver and receive unwelcome messages with tact and discretion.
Can identify patterns, provide new and creative ideas and persuade peers based on solid evidence and rigorous analysis
Personally motivated to participate in functions beyond the scope of required duties
Able to take personal responsibility for correcting problems and addresses underlying customer needs.
Education:
B.S. /B.E. /B.A. in Chemistry or Polymer Science with a minimum of 6 years industry experience or equivalent. Knowledge of construction or industrial adhesives, sealants and coatings and a strong understanding of polymer and reactive chemistry, including urethane, silylated urethane, MS Polymer and moisture curing chemistry required.
Advanced degrees will also be considered with direct industry experience.
