Research Scientist II (Insecticide Biology) The BASF Agricultural Products Center, located in Research Triangle Parkrk, North Carolina is headquarters for the BASF Agricultural Products North America Division, BASF Plant Science L.L.C, BASF Global Insecticide Research, and BASF Global Agricultural Research & Development. We are seeking an enthusiastic team player as a Research Scientist in the Global Insecticide Biology Research Group, with research responsibilities centered on the evaluation and development of novel insecticides for control of crop insects of economic importance; and to provide laboratory support to BASF's commercial crop insecticide products. The incumbent will work together with a Team Leader and several Research Scientists in the Crop Insecticide Advanced Testing Team to conduct whole organism experiments based on established protocols as well as design, develop and conduct biological assays in the laboratory, greenhouse and agricultural field environment to characterize novel insecticide chemistry for efficacy on crop insect targets; weigh, formulate, and apply experimental and commercial compounds to insect targets and crops; and assess insect behavior, susceptibility, and crop injury impact. The position requires methodology development, critical analysis and interpretation of experimental data, written formal reports on procedures and results, and occasional oral presentations. Laboratory & field work involves the safe handling of chemicals of unknown toxicity. Required: MS or BS degree
* in an area of crop protection focused on whole organism biology with course work in entomology, pest management and statistics is required. A minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience in an area of crop protection focused on whole organism biology is required for a BS level candidate. Must have proficiency in the fundamental aspects of experimental design and data analysis, solid verbal/written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary research team. Must be able to work in laboratory, greenhouse and agricultural field environments. Must be willing and able to handle chemicals of unknown toxicity safely. Equipment skills: microscopes, pipettes, scales, and pesticide application equipment. Competencies: To perform the job successfully applicants must demonstrate the following skills: Work Management Entrepreneurial Action (Initiative) Quality Orientation/ Attention to Detail Communication & Interpersonal Understanding Computer skills proficiency: MS-Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
