The Applications Engineer (Engineer II or III, depending on experience) will be a member of the Temperature Sensing group located in Portland Oregon. The position could be based remotely. The Applications Engineer will provide sales/marketing and customer support during the design, development, and installation of systems to fulfill the customer process improvement needs. This position will require visits to some extreme conditions of glass container, fiberglass, and other manufacturing environments to support our customers needs.
Specific duties include :
Interface with end-users, engineering OEM firms, and other third parties of BASF's optical temperature measurement products and present solutions in a clear and professional manner
Utilizing significant understanding of optical temperature measurement technologies, develop solutions for new applications and markets
Contribute to the analysis of new markets to define the benefits and value company's products could provide those markets
Recommend product development or design changes to improve quality and marketability
Provide design support for the optical, mechanical, and thermal design aspects of product development from initial concept to final product
Act as technical liaison to sales team and customer, requiring some customer technical visits
Provide periodic field installation support of company's products
Occasional hands-on work in industrial manufacturing environments
Travel Requirement: 25% or more
BS degree in Engineering, Physics, or relevant field. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
Minimum five (5) years of engineering experience.
Experience in process measurement, data transfer and/or control schemes is a definite plus.
Direct experience in metals, chemicals, power generation, refining and/or glass industries strongly preferred.
Optical measurement experience a plus.
Applications development experience highly desirable.
Experience/knowledge of optical temperature measurement technologies a strong advantage.
Relevant mechanical design experience; computer skills and SolidWorks experience desired.
Possess and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Candidates must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
