Operations Support II

The incumbent job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Working from written and verbal instructions, operates equipment to make production batches and visually inspects and monitors for performance. Operates process control equipment using computer controls, including PLC and DCS. Charges liquid raw materials using measuring devices, piping systems, hoses and pumps. Charges solid raw materials from super sacks and bags. Transfers in-process materials to finishing vessels and through product filters. Transfers finished products from process vessels to tank trucks, tank cars, drums or totes. Cleans equipment as scheduled including pumps, lines, vessels and hoses, etc. Records operating data, catches samples, interprets results and responds with appropriate adjustments and helps troubleshoot the process.

2. Operates environmental facilities including wastewater handling system, process flares and vapor recovery devices. Monitors equipment making adjustments as necessary to maintain compliance operation and responding to alarms appropriately. Assures proper handling of waste streams to meet local, state and federal regulations.

3. Performs emergency response functions. Responds to releases and spills to contain and control materials safely on site. When necessary, handles hazardous wastes within compliance of BASF, state and federal requirements, including generation, labeling, inspection and shipment. Uses necessary safety and personal protective equipment. Participates in required training and drills. Writes incident reports as necessary.

4. Operates utilities equipment to assure continuous supply including the steam boilers, hot oil systems, air compressors, cooling water systems, etc.

5. Performs job tasks assigned to the Material Handler position as needed including tank truck/tank car loading and unloading, drumming and associated tasks, warehouse raw material receipts, staging raw materials for production, etc.

6. Keeps work area and equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Inspects areas and participates in other cleanup work as required or assigned. Participates in regular safety meetings and process hazard analyses.

7. Performs miscellaneous duties including development of standard operating procedures, on the job training of new process technicians and material handlers, routine maintenance tasks, preparation and lock-out of equipment for inspection and repairs, issue various permits - safe work, hot work, etc.

12 years general education or equivalent experience. Thorough knowledge of plant equipment and procedures for operation of the reactor systems and the utilities required to manufacture quality products in a safe and efficient manner. Have knowledge of products, types of shipping containers used, characteristics of chemicals shipped, operation of fork lift truck, knowledge of truck shipping regulations, and safety requirements relative to handling various chemicals. Ability to determine measurements, make calculations and read various instruments, gauges and meters. Have knowledge of tank farm operations and physical layout, loading and unloading of tank cars/trucks and operation of pumps, valves, meters and filters.

This position is one of four positions the Production Operations job family, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a thorough understanding of BASF Safe Work and Process procedures to progress within the Production Operations job family.
