Operations Engineer - Acetylenics Job

Operations Engineer - Acetylenics

This position will be an integral part of the Geismar Acetylenics Team. This team is providing Manufacturing support including support of day to day operations and manufacturing representative project support for the Acetylene, Pyrrolidone, NVP, PVP, and PVPi plants.

Responsibilities include:

- Lead Alarm Management project.

- Conduct root cause analysis on process incidents and process induced mechanical failures and recommend corrective actions to permanently eliminate them.

- Responsible for supporting PHA/PSSR reviews and revalidations to meet PSM requirements.

- Ensure plant changes or modifications are captured and documented as a part of the PSM "Management of Change".

- Maintain and update operating procedures.

- Learn and ensure support application of global safety concepts.

- Provide Technical Support and direction to the Production Leader and Shifts in the resolution of plant problems.

- Work closely with Production Leaders and other team Operations Engineers to ensure that the Shifts are able to execute the production plan as intended on a daily basis.

- Support plant maintenance, and capital project outages in the planning, scheduling, and execution stages.

- Function as liaison with applicable Geismar production plants, utilities, corporate purchasing, raw material providers for prompt communication of production forecast changes.

- Process optimization, procedure modifications, efficiency improvements, de-bottlenecking of equipment, troubleshooting of processes to improve performance and reliability.

- Provide Technical Support to the Technology Team in innovation, the development of plant trials, experiments, and data collection.

- Serve as a manufacturing representative on capital projects including scope development, project justification, and commissioning/startup.

- Utilize technical background and troubleshooting techniques to improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of processes.

- Provide backup support in the event of Operations Manager absence.

BS degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical Engineering

BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.

A minimum of 5 years operations experience in a chemical manufacturing sited.

Strong understanding of Process Safety Concepts and their applications.

Strong interpersonal skills are required to interface with DOT, DST, TES and TST Teams.

Strong technical skills to help troubleshoot problems in the different manufacturing areas.

Strong communication, computer skills, and organizational skills.

Strong leadership skills and high level of initiative are required to lead the various teams to success.

Understanding of the Capital Procurement Process and management of Capital Projects.

Ability to learn and understand process controls (DCS & field controllers) and how they can be applied to improve plant performance.

This position is part of a job family with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and skill level.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
