Ag Biologist - Herbicide Support
The Ag Biologist assists Biology team members (e.g. Biology Project Leaders) in the characterization and optimization of biological activity of new plant protection candidates / technologies through the conduct of field, greenhouse and laboratory experiments. This particular position will provide focused support for the selection, development and support of herbicide candidates. Typical activities include study preparation, treatment, maintenance, data collection and communication of results.
Position Activities and Responsibilities:
Key Peers: Herbicide Biology Project Leaders and Profiling Biologist; and other Field / RTP based Biologists and Technicians
Conduct laboratory, field and greenhouse experiments / trials / studies which characterize or optimize the biological activity of experimental and commercial herbicides. Experiments are typically conducted under the indirect guidance of a senior Biologist. Study responsibilities will include preparation, treatment application, maintenance, evaluation and data reporting. Some activities may be of a potentially hazardous, physical and/or complex nature.
Perform and/or coordinate the maintenance of Biology facilities, equipment and supply inventories.
Proactively communicate results to others in an effective manner. Assist team Biologist with presentation of results to BASF associates or external customers as needed.
Coordinate activities and resource requirements with other team members and provide task supervision to seasonal employees.
Participate in internal planning and review meetings.
Observe all applicable regulatory compliance requirements on study and report design, data recording and laboratory operations. Obtain and maintain certification as a NCDA Certified Applicator (R&D category).
Contribute and adhere to all Safety, Environmental and EEO standards of BASF as well as federal, state and local governments.
BS degree in a Biological or Agricultural science, preferably Weed Science, Agronomy, or Horticulture; with at least 2 years of closely related practical experience in the area of agronomy, horticulture or plant protection research.
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of agronomic, horticultural and/or weed control practices is required. A working knowledge of biological processes, scientific techniques, computer operation and safety practices is also required. Ability to work independently and solve problems creatively is required.
