Chemist III
The ideal candidate will be a Chemist III for the Construction Business of the Dispersions and Pigments Group.
R esponsibilities include:
Identify and conceive of ways to improve current products and processes by analyzing their performance, practically or theoretically, using available scientific and patent information.
Formulate and execute self-conceived or assigned technical or research projects, usually complex in nature, to demonstrate the technical advantages of new or innovative products or processes either individually or as a member of a team.
Devises tests, procedures and experiments, statistically designed if appropriate, in order to execute or assist in execution of technical and research projects.
Writes comprehensive reports and evaluations on data obtained from experimentation and, if necessary, orally present observations, conclusions and recommendations to persons concerned; prepares invention records on sole or joint inventions in areas of the company's interests, Prepare original papers for presentation or publication if within security and policy restrictions.
Direct and provide required training for the work of one or more technicians.
Cooperate with technical services/manufacturing in furnishing technical assistance to demonstrate the usefulness of Company products, and/or to solve field or other problems that might affect Company relations with customers or prospective customers.
Becomes expert in one or more areas of technology relevant to the business.
Plans and carries out the original part of exploratory self-conceived projects after which, if they receive proper approval, become part of the planned program.
Contributes and adheres to Safety, Environmental standards of the Corporation, Division and location.
Stays current with developments and innovations in the areas of polymer science/technology. Develops and maintains expert knowledge in the scientific field related to the program in hand, by reading journals, patents and internal reports, by attending conferences, courses and seminars.
Performs special projects as requested and/or assigned.
Stays abreast of advances in construction related formulations, applications, and technologies Contributes by periodically developing and implementing new innovations and improvements to the same - particularly those of interest to the EDC business and customer base."
The successful candidate:
Plans and develops assigned work programs with minimal supervision.
Participates in business, manufacturing or other cross-functional teams to plan and monitor the overall project portfolio.
Functions in a highly diverse and ever-changing technological and business environment.
Solves problems in conjunction with Technical Service or Manufacturing.
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with 5 years minimum practical laboratory experience, to include 3 years of construction chemistry and formulation required. Masters Degree with 3 years minimum construction chemistry and formulation experience preferred.
Basic knowledge of polymer/ emulsion technology (synthesis, manufacture, applications, etc.) is beneficial.
Ability to utilize computer technology.
Ability to organize time and be able to perform multiple routine and non-routine tasks in multiple functional areas, and to fully and professionally document (formal reports) and communicate key project work, in the form of presentations (verbal and written).
A bility to adapt and be flexible to changing priorities.
Ability to prepare laboratory documents (JSA's, Safety, ISO, Standard Test Procedures, etc.).
Ability to train and/or direct technicians as a project leader.
