Senior Chemist As a member of the Research & Development Department, provides independent research leading to the improvement or development of new products and production processes the field of in lithium ion battery materials. A key priority is to successfully transfer developed technologies to pilot and production plants and meet cost/quality targets through close interaction with production personnel. The incumbent is expected to recognize and develop the approach, project design and feasibility of research projects, given a minimal amount of detail. Expected to assess competitive intellectual property and determine the feasibility / patentability of advanced studies to continually improve the Company's competitive position in the marketplace. Complies with all health and safety regulations and company business standards. Expected to coordinate with Marketing, Engineering, Production and external customers as necessary. Expected to have literature published or give technical speeches. Responsible for technical supervision of 1 or more professionals and 2 or more technicians. PhD in Chemistry, Engineering, or Material Science with 3-5 years industrial experience, MS degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Material Science with 5-7 years related experience or BS degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Materials Science with 7 years industrial experience with at least 3 years specific experience in the lithium ion battery industry as a technical leader is required. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent. Lithium ion battery cathode or other material development/production experience and a system level understanding of lithium ion batteries or other electrochemical systems are highly desired. Strong technical leadership skills are required. Excellent written / oral communication skills with a strong focus on meeting/exceeding goals are required.
